A very cool, very needed book for all kids!

As a mom with two special needs kids, one of whom has severe ADHD, this book is a breath of fresh air!! It is so hard to find entertaining, quality and COOL books that address learning differences. The story is so well written, and the illustrations are fabulous. We got this book two nights ago and my son sat at the dinner table enthralled with reading it, ignoring his pizza! He gave a long description of the story afterwards and said: "He's hyperactive like me Mom, and he's really good at basketball!" Then he took the book to bed with him. :-)

My class LOVED Hammer! This book sparked a discussion of differences and diversity. My Kindergarten students were inspired to write about all the ways they are different and special and these differences are to be honored and celebrated. Hammer will be a go to book for my class building unit every year! The illustrations are engaging and kid friendly.

Great for kids to learn about different ways people learn!!!

This is a wonderful book!! I know there wasn't anything out when I was a kid and I resisted getting diagnosed (even though my mother already knew being a teacher and all) until college. It made the biggest difference, I went from B/C student to Dean's List over night. I love the book, its great for kids to learn that everyone learns differently.

Good, but not perfect

This is a good resource to learn the format of the test and the general topics that will be tested. Beware though, in reviewing the answers, explanations and the wording of the problems, there seems to be a number of errors. Some of the solutions seem a bit 'sketchy' and do not define terms very well and sometimes flat out contradict the identified correct answer. On a few, we found the solution answer to not even be a choice for the problem's A, B,C... options.

I have been an early childhood educator for over 17 years and Jeff Johnson has been a huge influence in my work with children over the last four years. I cannot believe I did not know of his work prior to that! However, since learning of his work with young children , I have learned so from his work, videos, toys, and particularly, his books. I have the pleasure of owning almost all of Johnson's book, and I will definitely be purchasing the others down the road (I have to pace myself with all the amazing early childhood education books out there!).

First off, the book is LOADED with awesome, easy to implement activities that use mostly household items, that will keep children learning and having fun for hours. Second, it has some awesome activities for the teacher to do so they can evaluate how they understand the importance of play in a child's life and how to grow in their teaching methods. I actually loved these sections, as well as the Terminology section that referenced words the authors referred to in the book. When I looked at the Suggested Reading list at the end of the book, I was pleasantly surprised that I already own several of the books listed and its a great list for me to reference later. Finally, the introduction was full of valuable information, particularly important for those who are new to the child interest, play-based style of early childhood education.

I am not an educator that uses worksheets, does cookie cutter crafts, or weekly themes (unless it builds on a child's interest) and I love that I can learn from the authors who have similar philosophies. I count it a privilege to add Johnson and Dinger to my list of favorite teachers, along side of Dan Hodgins, Lisa Murphy, Bev Bos, Peter Gray and so many others.

As the book states social skill development is one of the most important skills children can use and this book is a fantastic resource for helping children learn and gain the skills the they need to grow into competent members of society. It doesn't matter one bit if a child can speak three languages, write in cursive, and count to 100 by grade one but doesn't know how to take turns, be pleasant to others and have a reciprocal conversation. Human to human interaction is what this book is all about and I loved it!

Every early childhood educator, and even parents, need this book in their hands to help our children be children and forget about early academics!

Who is Charity Wilson? Charity Wilson is the loving mother of four children, well five if you count her husband of over 25 years. She has worked in various jobs over the years but realized one day home is where she needed to be. After a lot of deliberation and research, she decided to become a full-time writer. Being a full time at home mom and writer sounds like a lot of work and for good reason, it is. She loves every minute of the organized chaos that is her daily life. It is what fuels her ideas and inspires her to write the books she does. She loves to share what she knows and is always willing to learn something new. She loves to cook and create new recipes which you will find shared throughout her various cookbooks. She stays up to date on the most current diets but doesn’t particularly follow any one of them. She eats to enjoy while consciously watching her health. She knows people need a variety of recipes to avoid the boredom that leads to weight gain and tries to fill that void. Her passions don’t stop at cooking and she is an avid gardener, organizer and loves reading. She is known amongst the kids in the sports community as “the lady with the best chocolate chip cookies ever.” She enjoys being able to watch her children play sports and is quite active herself. In the end, you could call her a homebody. Charity is all about living life with passion and enjoying every moment. Life is about enjoying good food, great company and waking up every day happy to do it all over again.

About the Author
Mallary Tytel is president and founder of Healthy Workplaces, a national consulting practice that focuses on complexity science and human systems dynamics, facilitation and coaching, diversity and culture, developing women leaders, and building productive and sustainable workplaces. She is the former CEO of an international nonprofit human resource development corporation; has served as a key advisor to senior-level civilian and military personnel in the U.S. Department of Defense; and created and delivered an innovative leadership training program in over 40 diverse communities worldwide. Most recently Mallary co-founded The Simple Rules Foundation, whose mission is to help individuals, organizations and communities see, understand and influence the patterns around them. Dr. Tytel considers herself to be a facilitator of change. She has a PhD in Public Health Promotion and Organizational Systems from the Union Institute and University, an MBA from the University of Connecticut, and is a certified mediator and certified executive coach. In her spare time she writes and mentors budding women entrepreneurs. She is a regular contributor to print and online media and One Simple Thing is her fourth book.

Taking Action in My Life for Change

I have just completed the book "One Simple Thing - Simple Tools for Living Your Own Theory of Change." It came to me at the perfect time in my life. I am ready to make so many changes in my business as well as some personal areas of my life. I have certain systems in place already but this book has become a "tool" for change. I can so relate to the stories and explanations that were so well written and thought out by Dr. Tytel. She gives you clear guidelines to map out your desired change and the steps to make this a reality. I have studied this book in the past month with notes and highlighted excerpts. I have shared the theory with my colleagues and friends and I am excited to see a new pattern evolve in my life as well as theirs. What a wonderful tool and resource for individuals, businesses and communities! I am looking forward to reading her other books and putting those theories into action too.

Tytel doesn't claim big changes like this will be easy

I tend to overcomplicate life. I also tend to make accomplishing big goals a difficult, sometimes overwhelming task. By reading Mallary Tytel's One Simple Thing, I feel freed up to make a plan for any change I want to make in my life, plotting out a series of simple changes to achieve my long term goals. The "simple tools" she offers in her book for creating my own theory of change have me feel more confident, for example, that I can develop a major new aspect of my business. And that it can be a success, if I just do one simple thing at a time. Dr. Tytel doesn't claim big changes like this will be easy, but she has convinced me that it can be simpler and more manageable than I thought.

It has provided me guidance and the tools I need to navigate through the changes which are inescapable yet allows for growth and development. Reading this book helped me to bring clarity in who I am, what's important to me and how I want to connect with others and the world around me. So now it's a matter of doing the one simple thing that will lead me to creating a path of self awareness and anticipation to a life of prosperity.

Quick, easy, and well laid out information on the medical exam for rape and sexual assault victims

I thought that this course might be about psychiatric nursing - I used to work as a forensics psychiatric nurse (with the prison population.) This isn't about that - this is about evidence collection for sexual assault or rape cases.
It's well presented, easy to understand, and very logical. I did learn a few things from this that I didn't know, so I appreciate that a lot. One thing I really liked was that it included a link to a DoD form that I found particular useful, because that form pretty much laid out the process in a step by step way.
After I was finished with reading through the material, I went to the link provided to fill out a self-assessment exam for the CEUs. I'm still not really clear on if I have to repay for the course there or pay to take a test or not, but I've written to find out. Once I do, I'll update this review accordingly. I just wanted to go ahead and post a review so that confusion might be cleared up as to what the content was about.

12/2/2015 Update: I heard back from the company. To get CEU credit, I'd have to purchase this content (that is free on their site) for $10. They did offer me a ninety nine cent discount, which is what I paid for this unit.

About the Author
Martha Zschock lives with her family on Cape Cod.  A former elementary school teacher, she was inspired by field trips with her students to write her first book, Journey Around Cape Cod from A to Z.  Martha's journey has continued with more books in the series from other places including, Boston, San Francisco, Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, Chicago, Maine, Nantucket, and New York.  Martha and her family enjoy the journey of creating the series, which includes lots of traveling, writing, painting, and meeting lots of wonderful children and adults along the way.  Martha often collaborates on projects with her twin sister, Heather, an art director and freelance designer.  When her twin sister had a baby, Martha began writing and painting for a new "Hello!" series of board books which take the youngest explorers on journeys to several locations such as Florida, Brooklyn, Washington DC, Boston, Yellowstone, and America.

They read together in the nest, or at the park, and listen carefully alongside other feathered friends at storytime, too! They check out tall tales at the library and soar off in to adventures together, with the turn of every page! Mama Bird is certain – after so much reading and learning, perhaps it won’t be long before Baby Bird will be the one snuggled up in bed reading to her!
